October 20, 2022 | 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm

DACOR Bacon House

Ticketing Open

In recognition of the role that the men and women of the American Foreign Service perform in support of U.S. foreign relations, the board of the Diplomacy Center Foundation (the Foundation) is honored to present the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) with the 2022 Excellence in Diplomacy Award at a special award dinner hosted by the Foundation on October 20, 2022.

We invite you to join us in this celebration of AFSA and the vital work it does to aid those who represent America’s first line of defense for U.S.  security, prosperity, and democratic values.  AFSA, which over 85 percent of active-duty Foreign Service members have joined, provides services as both a labor union and professional association.  AFSA protects the interests of American diplomats and supports their work, which involves crucial issues of war and peace, as is seen in the on-going conflict in Ukraine.  It involves humanitarian relief efforts as well as negotiating and monitoring trade and business relations to strengthen and grow our domestic economy.

The event includes a reception and seated award dinner at the historic DACOR Bacon House on 1801 F Street that has remained a testament to America’s diplomatic heritage for almost 200 years.

All proceeds from this benefit will support the campaign to create the National Museum of American Diplomacy.

About the Award

In 2019, the Diplomacy Center Foundation created the award for Excellence in Diplomacy to honor an individual or group with distinguished service in American diplomacy. Epitomized by the motto “Service, Leadership, and Legacy,” recipients are selected for their service to country, leadership in advancing American diplomacy, and legacy for future generations. The Award is presented at a dinner that features a special program to highlight the recipient’s accomplishments and service in advancing American diplomacy. Concluding the event is the presentation of the award: a medallion– personalized with the recipient’s name – and a certificate highlighting their accomplishments. The Award’s 2019 recipient was the Honorable James A. Baker, III, 61st U.S. Secretary of State.
